About
Hi, I'm Jonathan !
Most mornings at my place start with chaos—school lunches half-packed, a missing shoe crisis, three kids under 11 debating who sat in “that” chair first, and my wife begging to come to work with me to escape it all. Amongst this, there are a vast range of pets looking for attention, and most recently, a Cocker Spaniel wagging his tail like he’s running the show (he’s currently in training to become a therapy dog, but for now he’s mostly a professional crumb inspector). Somewhere in that chaos, there’s coffee… and a quiet reminder of why I do what I do. Life can be busy, messy, and full of curveballs. I’ve learned that it’s not about having a perfect plan—it’s about having the tools, resilience, and self-compassion to navigate whatever comes our way.
Professionally, I’m a registered Counsellor, Psychotherapist, and Professional Supervisor with years of experience working with adolescents and adults in areas such as complex trauma and PTSD, domestic and family violence, self-harm, addictions, depression, anxiety, grief, stress, anger management, and neurodivergence. I also love helping people step into their confidence through assertiveness training.
At the heart of my work is a simple belief: we’re at our best when we live in balance. That’s why I take a holistic approach—looking at the mind, body, and soul connection; how our family and early life experiences shape who we are; and how self-awareness and self-compassion can change everything. I’m also endlessly fascinated by what neuroscience is teaching us about the brain, behaviour, and healing.
Whether you’re here to heal, grow, or simply find steadier ground, you’ll find a space with me that’s safe, real, and grounded in both empathy and evidence-based practice.
I would love the opportunity to journey along side you.
Get To Know Me
Over the years, I’ve made it my mission to keep learning so I can bring the very best to the people I work with. My formal qualifications include Counselling and Integrated Psychotherapy, Family Therapy, Christian Counselling, and Professional Supervision. I’m also a Certified Child & Adolescent Trauma Professional (CATP), registered with the Australian Counselling Association (ACA), and a proud member of the ACA College of Supervisors.
Beyond the formal titles, I’ve explored additional training in a wide range of approaches—from psychoanalytical, dialectical-behavioural, and cognitive-behavioural therapies to mindfulness-based and somatic practices. Central to my approach is being trauma-informed and person-centred, often weaving in elements of play therapy and gestalt therapy to suit each client’s unique needs. What this really means is that I have a well-stocked toolkit, so I can meet you where you are and adapt our work to what you truly need—whether that’s deep, reflective exploration or practical, solution-focused strategies.
One of the most rewarding chapters of my career was working as a School Counsellor in an alternative learning program for senior secondary students who had stepped away (or often kicked out) from mainstream education. Many carried heavy stories—trauma, homelessness, addictions, family breakdown, mental health struggles—and often a deep mistrust of anything that looked like “therapy.” Rather than pushing a traditional model, I met them where they were—bringing creativity, humour, and their own interests into the process. Over time, the walls came down. They began to feel safe, understood, and willing to share their inner world. Those moments—when a young person feels seen, heard, and valued—reminded me why I do this work. They also gave me the skills and confidence to connect with people from all walks of life and help them find direction, resilience, and meaning, even in the hardest seasons of their lives.
For me, the heart of therapy is building a real, human connection. I like to keep the process authentic and, at times, a little unconventional—because no two people are the same, and neither is the way we work together. I welcome people of all ages and backgrounds, and my role is to offer compassion, understanding, and steady support as we navigate whatever life is throwing your way. I believe in focusing on what’s gone right in your life—your wins, your strengths, and the moments you’ve already overcome—rather than only looking at setbacks. Every experience, whether uplifting or challenging, shapes who you are and can be a stepping stone toward who you want to become. With the right tools, genuine support, and your own determination, I believe you can face life with confidence and grow into the best version of yourself.
