Counselling & Psychotherapy

Counselling & Psychotherapy Service In Sydney

Taking the first step toward better mental health can feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to do it on your own. At Where’s Your Head At, I offer a warm, confidential space where you can openly share your thoughts and feelings without judgment. I work with you to unpack life’s challenges, gain fresh perspectives, and build strategies that foster real, lasting change. Whether you’re facing anxiety, depression, trauma, or the weight of everyday stress, all sessions will be tailored to help you find clarity, strengthen resilience, and move toward a more balanced, fulfilling life.

What We Focus On In Counselling & Psychotherapy

Counselling and psychotherapy provide a safe, confidential space to talk through whatever’s on your mind—whether it’s something short-term or an ongoing challenge. It’s a chance to share your story, feel truly heard, and gain fresh perspectives on your situation. In our work together, I’ll support you to build self-awareness, grow in confidence, strengthen your relationships, and find ways to ease emotional struggles—so you can move towards the life you want to live.

We may spend time identifying what’s holding you back, uncover unhelpful patterns, and build practical strategies for moving forward. I can support you to explore and shift deeply held core beliefs—particularly those shaped by childhood experiences and patterns of negative self-talk, guilt, and shame. Part of the process can be uncovering the roots of unhelpful behaviours, then start to move toward more authentic, self-accepting ways of living. Whether you’re here to heal, grow, or simply find steadier ground, you’ll find a space with me that’s safe, real, and grounded in both empathy and evidence-based practice.

My Approach To Counselling & Psychotherapy

At the heart of my work is a simple belief: we’re at our best when we live in balance. That’s why I take a holistic approach—looking at the mind, body, and soul connection; how our family and early life experiences shape who we are; and how self-awareness and self-compassion can change everything. I’m also endlessly fascinated by what neuroscience is teaching us about the brain, behaviour, and healing.

I aim to bring a mix of energy, curiosity, humour, and lived experience into my work—balancing the intellectual with the practical, and always trying to help others feel understood, empowered, and a little more human in the process. I have a deep level of respect for both neuroscience and integrative health practices, with particular interest in the role of neuroplasticity and complementary therapies in supporting mental health. My approach is both reflective and practical, helping you develop insight while also fostering lasting emotional and relational change.

Therapeutic Approaches

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Helps people manage their problems by changing the way they think and behave. It focuses on the present and how negative thoughts can lead to negative feelings and actions.

Compassionate Inquiry Approach

Gently uncovers and releases the layers of childhood trauma, constriction and suppressed emotion embedded in the body, that are at the root of mental and physical illness and addiction.

Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)

Aims to teach you skills to gain awareness of your emotions and effective ways to self-regulate, build distress tolerance, and improve relationships through effective communication.

Psychoanalytic Therapy

Explores unconscious thoughts, feelings and beliefs to help you understand how past experiences shape your present behavior and relationships.

Somatic Experiencing

A way to reconnect with the body's innate wisdom and capacity for healing, helping you to resolve trauma and restore a sense of wholeness and well-being.

Solution Focused Therapy

A strong focus on practical tools, finding solutions in the present, and exploring hope for the future, rather than dwelling on past problems.

What To Expect In Counselling & Psychotherapy

I understand that starting therapy can feel scary and uncertain, so I aim to make the process as comfortable and transparent as possible. Expect a warm, confidential space where you can speak openly without judgment. Together, we’ll unpack what’s going on, look at things from fresh angles, and turn insight into clear, doable steps that fit your life. The focus is steady progress and real, lasting change—not quick fixes—so each session leaves you with practical tools and a plan that adapts as you do.

Here’s how we’ll work together:

Initial Session

  • Getting to know each other and building rapport
  • Discussing your current concerns and challenges
  • Exploring your personal history and background
  • Identifying your goals for therapy
  • Developing a realistic plan together

Ongoing Sessions

  • Regular 60 minute appointments
  • Exploring thoughts, feelings, and behaviors
  • Learning and practicing new coping strategies
  • Processing difficult emotions in a safe space
  • Regular review of progress and goals

My Commitment to You

  • Complete confidentiality and privacy
  • Non-judgmental, compassionate support
  • Evidence-based practices and techniques
  • Respect for your values and perspectives
  • Collaborative approach to your healing journey

Benefits Of Counselling & Psychotherapy

Therapy turns tangled thoughts into clear next steps in a calm space where you can feel, not just cope. You’ll learn practical tools for the hard days, see patterns, break cycles, and choose differently. We build boundaries that protect your energy and trade self-criticism for compassionate accountability. The result: less overwhelm, a plan you can follow, and resilience to bend without breaking—a life you don’t need to escape from.

Emotional Relief

Bring the tangle; we’ll un-knot it together. Therapy softens the edges of emotional distress, restoring a steady rhythm to your day.

New Perspectives

Honest conversations open up alternative narratives. Suddenly, the problem looks smaller, and your options look bigger.

Practical Strategies

Simple tools you can use between sessions: boundary lines, scripts for hard chats, habit tweaks. Small moves you can repeat on tough days.

Professional Guidance

A trained therapist turns evidence into clear, workable steps. Less guesswork, more progress, with a steady hand beside you.

Personalised Approach

No templates, no one-size-fits-anyone. We tune the work to your story, values, and pace so it fits real life, and actually sticks.

Lasting Change

Small habits, repeated, rewire the brain. We track progress, adjust the plan, and turn improvements into your new normal.

Frequently Asked Questions

I understand that starting Counselling can raise many questions. Here are answers to some common queries about my Counselling service in Sydney.

How long does each counselling session last?

All appointment types (individual, couples, family etc.) are typically 60 minutes. This timeframe allows for meaningful therapeutic work while fitting conveniently into your schedule. In certain circumstances (if you’re in crisis or at risk) then we may go longer than 60 minutes. If you prefer a longer session, 90 minutes or 2-hour appointments are also an option; for people who live a long distance away or just prefer a longer session time.

The number of sessions varies depending on your specific needs, goals, and the complexity of the issues you’re addressing. Some clients benefit from short-term therapy (6-10 sessions) focused on specific concerns, while others need or prefer longer-term work for deeper exploration and change. We’ll regularly review your progress together and adjust the approach accordingly.

Yes, confidentiality is a cornerstone of effective therapy. What you share in sessions remains private, with a few specific exceptions required by law: if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, if abuse of a child or vulnerable person is disclosed, or if your records are subpoenaed by a court. We’ll discuss these limitations in detail during your first session.

Session fees range from $150-$180 (excluding GST) depending on what type of support you need. Medicare rebates are not available when working with me, however, some private health funds may include counselling/psychology as part of their plan.

No, you don’t need a referral to book an appointment with me. However, if you wish to claim Medicare rebates for appointments, then working with a registered psychologist would be a better option for you. This will require a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP.

While there’s significant overlap, counselling typically focuses on specific current issues and practical problem-solving, while psychotherapy often involves deeper exploration of patterns, past experiences, and unconscious processes. When working with me, I am trained in both approaches and integrate them based on your needs. We’ll discuss which approach might be most helpful for your situation during your introductory call.
