FAQs
The terms “counselling” and “psychotherapy” are often used interchangeably, but there is a slight distinction.
Counselling generally refers to short-term consultation while psychotherapy typically refers to longer-term treatment. Counselling typically deals with present issues that are easily resolved on the conscious level whereas psychotherapy intensively and extensively examines a person’s psychological history. In other words, counselling is more concerned with practical or immediate issues and outcomes while psychotherapy is more focused on helping a person understand their life in a profound and reflective manner. Counselling normally helps a client process powerful emotions such as grief or anger, deal with immediate causes of stress and anxiety, clarify values and identify options when making important personal or professional decisions, manage conflicts within relationships, develop better interpersonal and communication skills, or intentionally change unproductive thoughts and behaviours.
Psychotherapy, on the other hand, is an evolutionary process that helps a person look at long-standing attitudes, thoughts, and behaviours that have resulted in the current quality of one’s life and relationships. It goes much deeper to uncover root causes of problems, resulting in more dramatic changes in perspective regarding oneself, one’s life experience, and the world in general. Psychotherapy aims to empower the individual by freeing them from the grip of unconscious triggers or impulses through increased self-awareness.
Christian counselling is faith-based and founded on the principle of inviting God to be the centre of the discussion, and backed by the Bible to allow healing and growth. The Christian counsellor has chosen the root of spiritual healing for their clients. The entire process is seen through a biblical point of view, and helps the client build a trust in God and believe that He will guide you out of darkness into light.
The first session is usually a very positive experience. Chances are that you have been talking to family and friends about your problems and heard different advice and/or suggestions. Talking to a professional is a very different experience. After I find out what are the main difficulties that you struggle with, I will work towards a solution that we agree on. This way, therapy becomes a joint effort right from the start and you will feel that you are actively working on the issues that concerned you. It is important that you feel comfortable working with me and feel that I have understood your concerns, so I encourage you to be as honest as you can.
It depends. The average would be about 10 weekly sessions, but the frequency and duration of counselling will vary between individuals as the process of self-awareness, problem-solving, and change often takes different people different lengths of time to achieve.
Some may find resolution within a few sessions, while others may require a more extended period of time depending on personal circumstances and what changes they desire to work towards.
Yes, I do. While seeking help is a good investment towards your psychological and mental health, I understand that cost can be a factor in getting the help that you need.
If you are experiencing genuine financial difficulty, please contact me and we can discuss a solution that may work for you. I don’t intend on turning you away if you can’t afford the full fee.

Difficult, but yes. Relationship problems are best approached together with your partner. However, I recognise that this is not always possible or productive for the relationship. There are strategies individuals can use to improve their relationships without directly involving their partners and I will help you implement these in your current situation.
You can access counselling on your own and this will ultimately impact on your partner, as change in one person in a relationship will also affect the other. Also, sometimes when one person attends counselling, their partner can see the positive change and this may encourage them to attend.
Yes. All mental health and counselling services I provide are confidential and delivered in line with professional and ethical guidelines. I prioritise privacy and handle all personal information securely.
If you feel overwhelmed, emotionally stuck, or are struggling to manage daily life, counselling may be helpful. Many people also access mental health support as a preventative step rather than waiting until challenges escalate.
My counselling services can help with anxiety, low mood, workplace stress, burnout, relationship challenges, self-esteem, and emotional regulation. I also support people seeking clarity, resilience, and personal growth.
